Stand Up To Cancer Hails Election of SU2C Team Leader as President-elect of American Association for Cancer Research
March 28, 2019 – Stand Up To Cancer is hailing the election of active SU2C researcher and world-famous scientist, Antoni Ribas, MD, PhD, as the 2019-2020 president-elect of the American Association for Cancer Research, SU2C’s Scientific Partner.
“Toni Ribas has been an outstanding member of the SU2C community, and we know he will provide excellent leadership and direction to AACR,” said Sung Poblete, PhD, RN, president and CEO of Stand Up To Cancer. “Toni’s election is a great tribute from the doctors and scientists fighting cancer around the world.”
The president-elect of the AACR is elected by its 42,000 members in 120 countries. Ribas will officially become president-elect at the Annual Meeting 2019 to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, March 29-April 3, and will assume the presidency at the AACR Annual Meeting 2020 in San Diego.
Ribas is a professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and director of the Tumor Immunology Program at UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC). Along with Nobel laureate James P. Allison, PhD, of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, he was leader of the SU2C-Cancer Research Institute Cancer Immunology Dream Team and is leader of the SU2C Catalyst® Reversing Resistance (Melanoma) Research Team. Ribas also received an SU2C Phillip A. Sharp Award for Innovation in Collaboration, which fosters collaborative research across different SU2C teams.

STAND UP TO CANCER (SU2C) raises funds to accelerate the pace of research to get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now.
