August 30, 2016 – SAN FRANCISCO and LOS ANGELES –Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and Rally Health, Inc., a digital health company that makes it easy for people to take charge of their health, are launching a public service campaign called Stand Up and Pledge to help people find out which cancer screenings are recommended for them and pledge to get screened.
This year, more than 1.6 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer, and nearly 600,000 will die from it, according to the National Cancer Institute. Studies have shown that cancer screenings could have decreased the risk of death in certain cases.
The Stand Up and Pledge website, getscreenednow.org, allows people to enter their age and gender, and receive personalized recommendations for the types of cancer screenings and vaccinations they should consider getting. Along with the recommendations, they also receive a list of simple actions they can take every day to lower their risk for certain types of cancer. Each screening recommendation and healthy tip – such as eating smarter and fitting in regular exercise – links to detailed information and specific steps they can take. People who take the pledge to get screened are encouraged to invite their family and friends to take the pledge, too.
“Staying on top of your health is one of the most important decisions you can make. Through this campaign, we want to make it easier for people to figure out which cancer screenings they might need, and to encourage them to make a promise to themselves and their family and friends that they will get screened,” said David Ko, Rally Health president and COO. “Taking even small steps when it comes to your health, such as getting routine cancer screenings, can have a big impact, including potentially saving your life.”
“Cancer prevention is a critical part of the fight against cancer. By taking a hands-on approach to staying healthy, people can minimize their risk of getting cancer,” said Stand Up To Cancer co-founder Lisa Paulsen. “Through Stand Up and Pledge, we hope to raise awareness about the importance of cancer screenings and early detection, and are calling on millions of Americans to help spread the word.”
Earlier this month, SU2C and Rally Health announced a multi-year collaboration focused on informing people about the importance of proactive cancer screenings and taking preventive actions against cancer, such as getting vaccinations that protect against viruses that can potentially cause cancer. SU2C and Rally Health will produce a series of public service announcements (PSAs) to encourage people to make a personal pledge to safeguard their health by getting cancer screenings and preventive vaccinations.
SU2C will also host its fifth televised fundraising special Friday, Sept. 9, that will air live on more than 60 major television broadcast and cable networks and streaming channels in the United States and Canada. Featuring performances from top recording artists, and celebrities from film, television and sports, Stand Up To Cancer will appeal to the public for support and donations to fund cutting-edge cancer research. The star-studded LIVE event will deliver a one-of-a-kind show by engaging viewers with powerful stories and a moving call-to-action.
